The Greatest Colonizers of the Land

When we think of colonialism, we often imagine distant nations, foreign occupations, and external powers. Yet sometimes the greatest colonizers of a place are those who govern it, those who exploit its resources for their own interests.

For years, this country's natural wealth, labor, and collective assets have been steadily transferred to privileged interest groups. The close relationship between political power and capital has pushed the public good aside, allowing resources that belong to society as a whole to serve the interests of a select few. As wealth accumulates at the top, poverty deepens below. As profit and speculation grow, public benefit continues to diminish.

In the pursuit of more money, more property, and more power, forests, coastlines, farmland, cities, and living environments are being irreversibly damaged. The cost of this destruction is ultimately borne by the millions of people who call this land home.

This system is sustained not only through economic mechanisms but also through the manipulation of shared social values. Faith, patriotism, the national flag, and historical figures -values that should belong to everyone- are at times turned into instruments for legitimizing political and economic interests. Yet these symbols belong to no government, political faction, or circle of wealth. They are part of our shared heritage and should never be used as shields for exploitation.

True patriotism means protecting the people, the environment, the labor, and the future of this country. True responsibility is not using shared values to secure privilege, but building a society that honors those values through justice, transparency, and accountability.

A society can become truly free only when it questions those in power, demands accountability, and refuses to allow its shared values to be exploited.
